Gateway engaged Prism’s services for EV charging station installations in response to BOMA BC’s Clean Connect charging station rebate program. This included 22 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at seven multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs).

The design process involved reviewing all eligible Level 2 charging stations, determining the available electrical capacity within each of the buildings, and specifying the installation and infrastructure requirements.

The Prism team supported Gateway by managing the tender and construction process and ensuring the charging stations were ordered and installed properly by the electrical contractor within a tight time constraint to qualify for the rebates.

Parking areas at all the buildings were in underground parkades. Several buildings had a mixture of commercial and residential parking with the residential spaces where the stations where being installed on the bottom levels. This caused issues with the network connections required for the smart chargers. To address this, Prism worked with Gateway to install cellular repeaters to increase service signals in the parkades.

The project was completed and now the buildings are well prepared for the dramatic increase in EV adoption of recent years. Forward thinking by Gateway allowed them to promote the charging stations to potential residents and ensure current residents would be able to charge their electric vehicles securely at home, a rarity for rental apartment buildings at the time of installation.
