Prism provided detailed design and tender-ready documents for the implementation of a Solar Photovoltaics (PV) system at Building G of University of Fraser Valley’s Abbotsford campus.

A detailed analysis was conducted to examine options for utilizing a full PV system in the building, outlining costs, benefits, and limitations. The challenge was to design a system which does not exceed 100 kW of electrical generation to qualify for BC Hydro’s Net Metering program. Physical constraints also needed to be considered including the roof area and the weight of the solar panels.

The installed 100 kW AC grid-tied rooftop PV system utilizes the maximum electricity generation limit set by the BC Hydro Net Metering program and reduces the university’s dependency on utility power. The wiring and conduit between the PV system and the existing electrical distribution of the building covered a great distance. This posed unique challenges, but the Prism team found innovative ways to integrate the new system.

After installation, Prism also carried out field reviews to confirm the work was completed in compliance with the tender documents.
Prism provided monitoring and verification services to confirm the results were in line with what was originally forecasted in the initial study. Prism continues to track results via remote web monitoring.
